Inlet manifold and gasket

The casting that distributes air from the throttle to each cylinder, with the gaskets sealing it to the head.

Also called intake manifold.

How you know it is this

  • A high or hunting idle, or a whistle at idle — an air leak past the gasket
  • A fault code for intake air flow or manifold runner position
  • A rattle from inside the manifold on a diesel, which is usually a swirl flap

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Plastic manifolds crack with heat and age, and a cracked one cannot be sealed.
  • On diesels the manifold carries the swirl flaps, and those are the usual reason the manifold comes off at all.
  • Carbon build-up on a direct-injection engine is cleaned with the manifold off, so do both at once.

What we need to quote it. The engine code. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
