Engine oil to Mercedes specification

Engine oil meeting the Mercedes approval sheet your engine requires.

Also called MB approval, MB 229.5, engine oil.

How you know it is this

  • A service is due
  • Oil that is black and thin on the dipstick well before the interval
  • An oil quality or service message

Worth knowing before you buy

  • MERCEDES APPROVES OIL BY SHEET NUMBER, and the sheet matters more than the viscosity. The right 5W-30 to the wrong sheet is still the wrong oil, and on a diesel with a particulate filter the wrong sheet will block it.
  • Diesels with a DPF need a low-ash oil. A standard oil in one of those shortens the filter's life considerably.
  • Long intervals are what kill camshaft adjusters, timing chains and turbos. In this climate, shorter is cheaper than the repair.
  • Tell us the engine and we will tell you the sheet — do not order on viscosity alone.

What we need to quote it. The engine code, and whether the car has a diesel particulate filter. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
