How you know it is this
- Slow cranking, worse first thing in the morning
- Multiple unrelated warning lights and odd electrical behaviour
- A car that needs jump-starting after standing two or three days
- A swollen or leaking case
Worth knowing before you buy
- HEAT IS WHAT KILLS BATTERIES HERE, not cold. A battery that would give five years in Europe frequently gives two or three in this climate, and it fails without much warning.
- A stop-start car needs an AGM or EFB battery. Fitting an ordinary battery to one will work briefly and then fail early — the charging strategy is different.
- Most cars need the new battery REGISTERED to the car with a diagnostic tool, so the charging system knows it is new. Skipping that shortens its life.
- Size, terminal position and hold-down all vary. The old battery's label is the quickest way to match it.
- Low voltage causes bizarre and unrelated faults across the car. Always confirm the battery before chasing an electrical gremlin.
What we need to quote it. The chassis number, and whether the car has stop-start. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
