Worth knowing before you buy
- The gearbox code decides the fluid, not the model year. A 722.6, a 722.9 and a 725.0 take different fluid and the wrong one causes harsh shifting quickly.
- Gearbox services normally take the filter and pan gasket too — quote all three together.
- 4MATIC cars have a transfer case with its own oil, which is separate from both the gearbox and the differentials and is often forgotten.
- Differential oil on a limited-slip diff needs the friction modifier, or it chatters on lock.
What we need to quote it. The gearbox code (722.6, 722.9, 725.0), and whether the car is 4MATIC. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
