Universal joints and couplings

The joints in the steering shaft that let it change angle between the wheel and the rack.

Also called UJ, steering coupling, rag joint.

How you know it is this

  • A notchy or grating feel through the wheel
  • A clonk on turning that is felt rather than heard
  • Steering that feels tight at one particular point in its travel

Worth knowing before you buy

  • A worn coupling makes the steering feel awful but is a small and relatively cheap part.
  • They sit in the footwell and near the exhaust, so heat and age finish them.

What we need to quote it. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
