Door seals and weatherstrips

The rubber seals around the door apertures and along the glass.

How you know it is this

  • Wind noise at speed
  • Water in the footwell after rain or a wash
  • A seal that has shrunk, hardened or come away
  • A door that sounds hollow when it shuts

Worth knowing before you buy

  • THE SUN IS WHAT FINISHES THESE. Rubber hardens and shrinks here in years rather than decades, and wind noise from a car with no accident history is usually the seals.
  • A shrunken seal pulls away at the corners first — that is where to look.
  • Water in a footwell is more often a blocked drain than a seal. Check the drains before buying rubber.
  • Treating seals with a rubber conditioner genuinely extends their life in this climate.

What we need to quote it. The chassis number and which aperture. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
