Selector lever and cable

The gear lever and the cable or linkage connecting it to the gearbox.

How you know it is this

  • The lever moving but the gearbox not changing
  • The indicated gear not matching the gear selected
  • The lever feeling loose, sloppy or gritty
  • Being unable to get out of Park

Worth knowing before you buy

  • The plastic bushes at each end of the cable break down and are frequently available separately, which is far cheaper than a cable.
  • Cannot leave Park is usually the shift interlock or the brake light switch rather than the cable.
  • Later cars use an electronic selector on the column or console with no cable at all — a different part entirely.

What we need to quote it. The chassis number, and whether the selector is on the console or the column. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
