Also called tie rod end, outer tie rod.
How you know it is this
- Play felt when the wheel is rocked side to side with the car raised
- A knock when turning at low speed
- A split boot
- The car failing to hold its tracking
Worth knowing before you buy
- One of the cheapest steering parts and a very common MOT-style failure item.
- Alignment afterwards is essential — changing one alters the toe immediately.
- Usually worth doing in pairs, since both have done the same mileage.
What we need to quote it. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
