How you know it is this
- Oil leaking from the front of the engine behind the pulley
- Oil dripping from the bellhousing at the back — the rear main seal
- A clutch or torque converter contaminated with oil
Worth knowing before you buy
- The rear seal means the gearbox out. It is a cheap part and an expensive job, so do it whenever the gearbox is off for any other reason.
- The front seal is behind the crank pulley and is usually done with the timing cover or the belt.
- A leaking seal is often a symptom of crankcase pressure from a blocked breather. Check that, or the new seal pushes out too.
What we need to quote it. The engine code, and front or rear. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
