Electric cooling fan and module

The fan that pulls air through the radiator when the car is not moving fast enough to do it on its own, with the module that controls its speed.

Also called radiator fan, fan module.

How you know it is this

  • Overheating in traffic but not on the open road — the classic fan symptom
  • Air conditioning that goes warm at a standstill and cold again on the move
  • A fan that runs at full speed constantly, including from cold
  • A fan that never runs at all

Worth knowing before you buy

  • Overheating in traffic and fine on the move is a fan fault until proven otherwise. The other way round points at the radiator or the pump.
  • The control module is often built into the fan assembly, and it is usually the module that fails rather than the motor.
  • A fan stuck on full is the module failing safe. Inconvenient rather than dangerous, and worth fixing before it fails the other way.
  • In this climate the fan runs far more than it would in Europe, so it wears out sooner.

What we need to quote it. The engine code, and whether the car has air conditioning. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
