Inverter / power electronics

The unit converting the pack's DC into the AC the motor runs on, and controlling how much of it goes where. It is what actually decides how the car drives.

Also called inverter, power electronics, PEB.

How you know it is this

  • Reduced power or the car limiting itself
  • A drive system fault with a motor that tests sound
  • Loss of drive that clears on a restart
  • Overheating warnings under sustained load

Worth knowing before you buy

  • MORE OFTEN THE FAULT THAN THE MOTOR, and cheaper — though still a serious part. Always distinguished before ordering a drive unit.
  • Liquid-cooled, and a cooling fault presents as power limiting rather than as an overheat warning. Check the coolant circuit first.
  • Coded to the car.
  • It holds a dangerous charge after isolation. The waiting period before touching it exists for a reason.

What we need to quote it. The chassis number and the fault codes. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
