Charging cables — Mode 2 and Mode 3

The cables — Mode 2 for a domestic socket with its in-line control box, Mode 3 for a wall box or public AC point.

How you know it is this

  • A cable that will not initiate a charge
  • An error light on the in-line control box
  • Visible damage, heat marks or a bent pin
  • Charging that works with one cable and not another

Worth knowing before you buy

  • TRY ANOTHER CABLE BEFORE SUSPECTING THE CAR. A cable is the cheapest thing in the charging chain and a very common failure, and swapping one proves it in minutes.
  • Mode 2 cables trickle-charge from a domestic socket and are slow by design — that is not a fault.
  • Heat is hard on cables here. A cable left coiled in a hot boot ages fast, and a damaged one is a fire risk rather than an inconvenience.
  • Connector type and current rating both matter. Tell us which you need.

What we need to quote it. The chassis number, and whether you need Mode 2 or Mode 3. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
