Also called PTC heater, HV heater.
How you know it is this
- No cabin heat
- A heater fault code
- Battery pre-conditioning not working
- An isolation fault traced to the heater
Worth knowing before you buy
- HIGH VOLTAGE. Despite being a heating element, this is not a low-voltage part and must be treated as high voltage.
- Matters less for comfort here than almost anywhere, but it is also used to pre-condition the battery before rapid charging — so a failure can slow charging even in summer.
- It is a common source of isolation faults as it ages, because the element runs at high voltage and its insulation degrades.
- Cars with a heat pump use it only as a booster, so a failure may be less obvious.
What we need to quote it. The chassis number and the fault codes. The chassis number settles the generation, the body and usually the engine in seventeen characters — it is on your mulkiya. A photograph of the old part helps where there is more than one version.
