What it is
Ø48.3 mm steel tube to EN 39 — the size every coupler, clamp and fitting in the trade is cut to. Hot-dip galvanised for outdoor and coastal work, which is most of it here.

- Welded steel tube of 48.3 mm outside diameter, the dimension that BS 1139 and EN 39 fix so that any coupler fits any tube. Wall thickness is what changes, and it changes the load the tube carries.

- Material
- S235GT — EN 39's own grade. Yield not less than 235 N/mm², tensile 340–520 N/mm² (a band, not a floor) and elongation not less than 24%. Q235 and S235JR are the mill equivalents most certificates carry.
- Tolerances
- Outside diameter ±0.5 mm with out-of-roundness inside it, wall −10% with no plus, and a 37.7 mm gauge must enter the bore 200 mm. A single tube may run up to 7.5% under its nominal mass.
- Standards
- EN 39 · BS 1139-1 · flattening test to EN 10233
- Finish
- Hot-dip galvanised inside and out, or pre-galvanised. Painted tube is not offered — it hides the pitting underneath.
- Lengths
- 6 m standard. Cut to 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0 m.
