What it is

The adjustable foot that takes a scaffold off uneven ground and back to level. Ground in this market is rarely flat and almost never level, which is why the jack is not an optional extra.

What it is
A threaded spindle on a welded base plate, with a winged nut that raises or lowers the standard sitting on it. A U-head is the same jack with a forked head instead of a plate, for carrying a beam.
Spindle lengths
100 · 200 · 300 · 400 · 500 · 600 · 750 mm
Adjustment
About 40 – 450 mm on a 600 mm jack
Spindle
Solid OD 26 – 48 mm · hollow 32, 34 and 38 mm
Base plate
150 × 150 mm standard, 5 – 8 mm thick. EN 74 §5.2.3 and EN 12811-1 §5.7.1 both set the end plate at not less than 150 cm² with a minimum width of 120 mm — two separate requirements. A square 120 × 120 plate is only 144 cm² and does not meet the area rule, so where a specification names either standard we quote 150 × 150. EN 12811-1 also asks for at least 6 mm on a base jack end plate.
Load
About 100 kN, and failure about 150 kN on a 32–38 mm hollow spindle — both are manufacturers' tested figures. Neither EN 74 nor EN 12811-1 states a load for a base jack; they set the geometry (plate area and thickness, overlap, spindle tilt) and leave capacity to the maker's test and the scaffold design. Ask for the test report with the quotation.
Standards
EN 74 §5.2.3 for the base plate · EN 12811-1 §5.7 for the jack — minimum overlap 25% of the shaft or 150 mm, whichever is greater, and spindle tilt not more than 2.5% unloaded · BS 1139-2.2
Finish
Hot-dip galvanised · painted on request
