What it is
Hot-dip galvanised steel decking with a punched anti-slip surface. It outlasts timber several times over in this climate, it does not warp, and it cannot be taken home for firewood.

- What it is
- A roll-formed steel channel with a perforated, embossed deck, used as the working platform on tube-and-fitting and frame scaffold. Also called a springboard or catwalk plank.
- Widths
- 210 · 225 · 240 · 250 · 300 · 320 mm
- Depth
- 45 · 55 · 65 mm, deeper for longer spans
- Thickness
- 1.2 – 1.5 mm base metal
- Material
- Q195 / Q235 steel, hot-dip galvanised
- Thickness and the standard
- EN 12811-1 §4.2.1.5 asks a platform unit for 2.0 mm nominal, and these planks are 1.2 to 1.5 mm. The same clause allows less where stiffening, bracing or the shape of the section carries the load instead — which is exactly what a roll-formed channel with a returned edge and an embossed deck does. Ask for the maker's span and load class table rather than judging the plank by its gauge.
- Standards
- EN 12811-1 working platform requirements · load classes 1 to 6 (0.75 to 6.00 kN/m² uniform) · width classes W06 to W24
- Lengths
- 1.0 to 4.0 m · 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 m are the volume sizes
- Ends
- Plain, or with welded hooks to drop straight onto a ledger — say which when you enquire, they are not interchangeable
