- How to choose
- Coolant colour is a dye, not a specification — and the most common error here is dilution. Ready-mixed coolant — Pour straight in. Already blended with water at the right ratio. Concentrate — Must be mixed with water before use. Read the bottle — the two look the same on a shelf. Flush — Run through and drained before refilling, to clear scale and old inhibitor. Leak sealer and anti-rust — Added to a system that is losing coolant slowly or has corroded internally.
- Where it is the wrong choice
- Two red coolants can be entirely different chemistries. Top up with what is already in the system, or flush it and start again — do not match on colour.
