- How to choose
- Two things on the bottle matter and they are independent: the viscosity grade, and the API service grade. Petrol engine oil — API “S” grade — SL, SN, SP and so on. The S series is written for petrol engines. Diesel engine oil — API “C” grade — CI-4, CI-4/SL. The C series is written for diesel, and the dual CI-4/SL grades suit mixed fleets. Gear oil — API GL-5 — Differentials and manual gearboxes. Nothing to do with engine oil grades. Automatic transmission fluid — Dexron III / Mercon — Automatic gearboxes and many power steering systems. Never a substitute for engine oil.
- Where it is the wrong choice
- A 20W-50 SN and a 20W-50 CI-4/SL read almost identically on the shelf and are blended for different engines. Match the API letter to the fuel the engine burns before you look at the viscosity.

- All 7 Emirates from our own yard. Sharjah and the northern emirates are usually same day on stocked lines; the rest of the country is one to three working days.
