What it is
Protective coatings for bare and corroded metal, and the repair and fitting consumables that go with them — exhaust bandage, brake anti-squeal, stop leak, grinding compound and engineer's marking blue.

Made of
A rubberised bitumen or synthetic-resin coating for the undercoats, a converting vinyl-latex coating for the rust treatment, and an abrasive-in-grease compound for the grinding paste.
How it works
A rust treatment converts the remaining oxide into a stable, paintable layer, which is why it goes on bare rust rather than over paint. Disc Brake Quiet cures into a thin damping layer on the back of the pad. Prussian blue protects nothing at all — it transfers where two surfaces actually touch, so you can see whether a seat or a bearing is bearing evenly.
Where it is the wrong choice
An underbody coating sprayed over live rust seals the rust in and lets it carry on underneath — treat or remove the corrosion first, because the coating is protection and not a cure. Brake anti-squeal goes on the pad BACKS and never on the friction face. An exhaust bandage is a temporary repair, and a radiator stop leak is a get-home measure, not a replacement for the hose or the core.
