What it is

A tungsten filament in a quartz envelope with a halogen gas fill, which lets the filament run hotter and last longer than a plain incandescent.

Who buys it

Maintenance stock for existing fittings - floodlight housings, appliance and oven lamps, older display track - where replacing the whole fitting is not yet justified.

Made of

Quartz glass, a tungsten filament, a halogen gas fill, and a ceramic or metal base.

How it works

The halogen cycle returns evaporated tungsten to the filament instead of letting it blacken the glass, which is why a halogen lamp stays bright through its life where a plain incandescent dims.

Handling

Never touch the quartz with bare fingers. Skin oil creates a hot spot on the envelope and the lamp fails early. Handle it through the packaging or with a cloth.

Where it is the wrong choice

Almost anywhere you have a choice. Halogen runs hot enough to be a burn and a fire risk, uses several times the electricity of the LED equivalent, and lasts a fraction as long. Buy it to keep an existing fitting alive, not to light something new.

All 7 Emirates from our own yard. Sharjah and the northern emirates are usually same day on stocked lines; the rest of the country is one to three working days. The delivery charge depends on the emirate, the load and the offloading, and is confirmed in writing on the quotation rather than guessed at here.
