- How to choose
- Brake fluid is a safety specification with a number attached, and the number is a boiling point. DOT 3 — The standard glycol fluid for most ordinary road cars. DOT 4 — A higher boiling point than DOT 3. Specified where brakes run hotter — heavier vehicles, hills, towing. Power steering fluid — A hydraulic oil for the steering rack and pump. It is not brake fluid and the two are never interchangeable.

- Topping a DOT 4 system up with DOT 3 mixes safely but lowers the boiling point of the whole system. Go up a grade if you must move, never down.
