- How to choose
- Six products here look interchangeable and are not. Five of them clean; the octane booster does not clean at all. Fuel injector cleaner — Cleans the injectors and nothing else. The routine, cheapest choice, and enough when the car has simply lost its edge. Complete / all-in-one fuel system cleaner — Injectors plus intake valves and ports, piston tops and the combustion chamber. The one to use for hesitation, rough idle or fuel economy that has slipped. Multi-system tune-up — Goes into the tank, the engine oil and the intake. For a car that has not been treated in years, or before a test. Octane booster — Raises the fuel's rating. It is not a cleaner — use it for knocking and pinking under load, or on poor-grade fuel. Carb, choke and throttle body cleaner — An aerosol sprayed straight at the part with the engine open. Never poured into the tank. DPF, turbo, EGR and catalytic cleaner — Diesel after-treatment. For a clogging filter, a smoking diesel or a failed emissions test.
