Worth knowing. Dielectric grease is an insulator by design. It goes around and over a connection to keep water out — not between two contacts that need to conduct.

What it is
Engineered greases, pastes and lubricant sprays for specific duties — electrical connections, slides and hinges, chains, belts and hot threads — rather than a general chassis grease.

Plant and facilities maintenance, generator and switchgear servicing, workshops, and fleet maintenance holding their own consumables.
Made of
Silicone fluid for the dielectric grades, a lithium soap thickener for the white lithium, and a solid-lubricant paste for the Molykote HSC Plus.
How it works
Each of these is chosen for what it does BESIDES lubricate. Dielectric grease insulates and keeps moisture out of a connector while the metal-to-metal contact still carries the current, so it goes on the boot and the seal rather than on the contact faces. Silicone spray is the one that does not swell rubber. HSC Plus is an electrically conductive assembly paste for high-temperature bolted joints.
Where it is the wrong choice
Dielectric grease is not a conductor — packing it onto a mating contact face is how a connection goes high-resistance. A lithium grease is not a substitute for a silicone where rubber is involved, and chain lube has no business anywhere near a brake or a belt friction surface. Belt dressing treats a symptom: a belt that squeals is usually worn or slack.
