What it is

A sealed LED array behind a toughened lens with the driver built into the housing. There is no separate lamp - the fitting is the light, and when it fails the fitting is replaced.

Who buys it

Yards and open storage, site compounds running a night shift, facilities managers relamping car parks, and contractors handing over a building whose facade needs lighting.

Made of

A die-cast aluminium body, which is the heat sink as well as the housing, a toughened glass lens, a silicone gasket, and a steel mounting bracket.

How it works

The driver converts mains to constant current for the LED array. Almost all failures in cheap floodlights are driver failures rather than LED failures - which is why driver quality, not the chip, decides how long a fitting lasts.

Colour

Warm white around 3000 K for facades and hospitality; daylight around 6500 K for working areas, where the job is to see clearly rather than to feel comfortable.

Heat, not rain

In this climate the enemy is heat and dust, not water. A fitting that runs hot through a 48-degree afternoon ages faster than the same fitting in Europe, so mounting it where air can move around the body matters.

Where it is the wrong choice

Not on a dimmer unless the unit is specified dimmable. Not on a low indoor ceiling - the glare from a floodlight at three metres is unpleasant, and a panel or a high bay is the right answer. And a floodlight aimed across a boundary is a nuisance complaint waiting to happen: aim it down.

All 7 Emirates from our own yard. Sharjah and the northern emirates are usually same day on stocked lines; the rest of the country is one to three working days. The delivery charge depends on the emirate, the load and the offloading, and is confirmed in writing on the quotation rather than guessed at here.
