Specification
- What it is
- A steel ISO shipping container - the standard intermodal box. 20ft and 40ft, standard height at 8ft 6in and high cube at 9ft 6in, which gives roughly a foot more headroom inside.
- Who buys it
- Sites needing secure storage that can be craned in and craned out again, yards holding materials, logistics and shipping, and anyone who wants a lockable steel store without a building permit.
- Made of
- Corten weathering steel walls in a corrugated profile, a steel frame with corner castings, a marine plywood floor on steel cross-members, and cargo doors with four-bar locking gear and rubber gaskets.
- The grade ladder
- This trade sells containers in grades, and the word "used" covers a wide range. One-trip: manufactured, shipped once, effectively new. Cargo-worthy: certified fit for ocean freight. Wind and water tight: sound and dry, but not certified for shipping. As-is: sold on description. The grade a price refers to is confirmed in writing on the quotation - ask, and do not assume, because the same 20ft box spans a wide price range across those four grades.
- How it behaves in this climate
- A closed steel box in UAE sun gets very hot and sweats when the air cools at night. If the contents can be damaged by condensation it needs vents or insulation, which is what the modified range is for.
- Where it is the wrong choice
- Not for people or livestock without conversion - an unmodified container has no ventilation, no insulation and no second exit. Not for anything heat-sensitive. And check the ground first: a container needs level, firm bearing at its four corners, not soft sand, or the doors will not close square.
- Delivery
- Craned or tilt-bed delivered. Access for the vehicle and the lift is the buyer's responsibility and worth checking before ordering.
- Sold by
- The unit, excluding 5% VAT.
- Installation
- Supply only, or supplied and installed by our own crew rather than a subcontractor. Installation is quoted with the goods once we have the site conditions and the access, and is shown as its own line on the quotation.
